 How to reach Tiruvannamalai from Coimbatore by train?

Note: The below journey may not work on Wednesday. Plan your trip accordingly. 

The only convenient train journey to reach Tiruvannamalai from Coimbatore is:

 1. Coimbatore Junction(CBE) - Katpadi Junction(KPD) by 06628 MAQ MAS Spl. (Runs throughout the week MTWTFSS).

 2A. Katpadi Junction(KPD) - Tiruvannamalai (TNM) by 06779 TPTY RMM Spl. (Runs on M F and Sat).

 2B. Katpadi Junction (KPD) - Tiruvannamalai (TNM) by 07407 TPTY MQ Spl. (Runs on Tue Thu and Sun).

● Arrive at Coimbatore Junction by 7 AM to take Mangalore to Chennai Central special train. This train reaches Coimbatore at 7.32 AM and departs at 7.35 AM, stopping for 3 minutes.

     This train can also be boarded from Podanur Junction at 7.19 AM. The train stops there for 1 minute.

● Detrain at Katpadi Junction. The train reaches Katpadi by 1.25 PM (13.25 Hrs). It stops there for 2 minutes.

● Have lunch within station premises if the train arrives on time. Be ready to onboard the next train at 2.10 PM (14.10 Hrs).

● Onboard the train from Tirupati at 2.10 PM (14.10 Hrs). This train will stop for 5 minutes.

● Get down at Tiruvannamalai station at 3.58 PM (15.58Hrs). Train stops here for two minutes. 

( Both 06779 and 07407 follow same timings at different days of the week. No train will arrive at 2.10 PM on Wednesday.)

◇ Alternate train details from Katpadi Junction to Tiruvannamalai:

•  06169 PRR VM SPL Purulia Jn to Villupuram Jn at 3.25PM on Tuesday and Saturday. Reaches Tiruvannamalai at 5.10 PM.

• 06177 KGP VM SPL Kharagpur Jn to Villupuram Jn at 3.25 PM on Friday. Reaches Tiruvannamalai at 5.10PM.

• 06853 TPTY VM SPL Tirupati to Villupuram Jn at 4.35PM on all days of the week. Reaches Tiruvannamalai at 6.38 PM.

Reaching Temple:

Arulmigu Arunachaleswarar Temple is located 2 Km away from the railway station. It takes around 20 minutes to walk to the temple.

At evenings, Arulmigu Arunachaleswarar Temple will be open from 5.30 PM to 9.00 PM.

Night train:

11.25 PM: 01006 PDY DR EXP Tiruvannamalai to Katpadi train. Reaches Katpadi at 1.15AM. (Runs on Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday)

1.55 AM: At Katpadi: Two trains to Coimbatore. 

  03351 DHN ALLP SPL. Runs on all days of the week. Reaches Coimbatore by 8.32 AM.

  07230 SC TVC SPL. Runs on all days of the week. Reaches Coimbatore by 7.52 AM.

Morning train:

From Tiruvannamalai to Katpadi:

4.20 AM: 06780 RMM TPTY EXP. Runs on M F and Saturday. Reaches Katpadi at 7.35 AM.

6.35 AM: 06854 VM TPTY SPL. Runs on all days of the week. Reaches Katpadi at 9AM. (Not preferable on Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday)

From Katpadi to Coimbatore:

8.05 AM: 02675 MAS CBE EXP. Runs on all days of the week. Reaches Coimbatore by 2.05 PM.

8.50 AM: 06029 MAS CBE SHATABDI. Runs except Tuesday. Reaches Coimbatore by 2.15 PM.

 There are few more trains at 9.55 AM only on Tuesday and Wednesday.

It is preferable to take 4.20AM train from Tiruvannamalai and take 8.05 AM train at Katpadi. 

Please confirm the running status of trains before planning for a trip. Subject to change as per Southern Railway decisions.

Tickets can be booked at irctc website. Tickets should be booked separately from Coimbatore to Katpadi and from Katpadi to Tiruvannamalai. 

Rate of tickets:

 2S (Second Sitting): Rs. 160 Coimbatore to Katpadi 

SL (Sleeper): Rs.265 Coimbatore to Katpadi 

2S Rs.65 Katpadi to Tiruvannamalai
